Perfectly timed virus

Well, my illness has turned into a terrible cough. I went to the doctor yesterday and he checked for strep. The strep test was negative, meaning there is a 96% chance that it's really not strep throat...so he gave me an antibiotic anyway. Yum. Here's to the growth of antibiotic resistant strains!

Anyway, I'm trying to decide if I should go to class today. I have to go into my office this afternoon because I have students that need to see me. But, I just can't decide about class. There is a 96% chance that nothing important will happen, I won't learn anything, and I'll just sit there miserable and bored the whole time...but what if the 4% chance that I learn something happens? I'm probably going to to because we are talking about comparative historical methods, of which I know nothing...but since I haven't done the readings, I probably won't learn much anyway.

Well, I think I'm going to go. What's the worst that can happen? It's probably better for me to get out. I've been cooped up for two days now.

The worst thing that could happen is if both 4% probabilities occur and you infect your whole class with strep because you were all talking so much as part of a lively and informative debate.
