The Parents have come and gone.
It was a lovely weekend. It was very nice to have my parents here and have them finally get to see where I've been living life for the past 8 or 9 months. We had a mix of business and relaxation. We toured Monticello. It was beautiful...I loved the grounds more than anything. We also drove around the countryside a bit and enjoyed Virginia the way it was meant to be. We ate too much, watched movies and took walks. It was well balanced. I didn't do anything grad school related except grade homework.
Now I am trying to decide if I have time to go to class this evening. Ha! I have lots to do this week, acamedically and practically. I have a grad stats test tomorrow that I should prepare for at some point. I also have to get reading for my papers. This in preparation for our weekend, which will be busy. We are rolling out of C-ville hopefully around 11am friday in hopes of making it to our alma matter by 6pm for the wedding rehearal of our dear friends. The weekend will be spent surrounding their wedding and also a visit or two to my gram. It will be busy. I'm really looking forward to seeing the old gang! I miss you all much (you know who you are)! It will be a fun time, that will undoubtedly be too short.
For now, I must skip on over to class.

Regarding gender bias: It is something that is faced every day in the financial world. Earlier this year a woman sued a major financial company because she was passed up for promotion many times while the promotion was given to less qualified men. These men were part of the "inner circle" of guys who went to the clubs together while the women of this firm did not.
Well, the courts fined this financial firm $20 million for their gender bias practices. $12 million went to the woman who filed the suit, $7 million was put in escrow for the other women who will most likely come forward, and $1 million was used to hire an omnibudsman to watch over this firm so that they do not do this again. (Incidentally this case was settled out of court because it was deemed prudent not to give this public exposure.)
Anyway, this type of thing would never happen in my company. Everyone gets promoted on their own merit and their production is tracked by their agent code number. The computer does not know who you are or what gender, race or creed. Merit is all that is gauged.
That's the way it should be.
