It was a dead body afterall
For about a week and half, the area outside of our apartment has smelled overwhelmingly putrid. At first, I thought it was dog poop, festering in the August Virginia sun. It kept getting worse. We called the management. They said they would take care of it, and they mopped up the cement floors and stairs outside our apartment. No change. It only got worse. One night, our apartment started wreaking of rotten something. Joshua freaked me out by saying, "It smells like someone dies in their apartment." It was too much. Yesterday, J. Morgan called again and said, "Seriously. This is a major problem. The mopping didn't help. It's coming from someone's apartment." So, the manager came...knocked on the neighbors door, found no one home, and gagging and gasping for fresh air, she entered and found...
ROTTEN MEAT!!! They had left their freezer open while on vacation and the freezer was packed full of (now) rotten flesh. It was the smell of death afterall.

Can you get some pictures?
that is really disgusting, Red. There are a few problems that would prevent me from getting pictures. 1) The apartment is locked. 2) I don't have a digital camera to share the pictures. 3) I think the management cleaned it all out (even though it still smells a little bit).
I did, however, read the note the leasing office left in the people's door. I'm a snoop. I was disappointed that all it said was "Call right away..." I was hoping for a lambasting.
It was great: every few minutes you would hear a different person yelling, "Oh, God", quick footsteps, and then gagging. That smell was laying waste to the maintenance crew two at a time.
That is amazing. Reading that post gave me a laughing spell. Geez...a week and a half is a long time, too.
Just buy a disposal camera, as long as the camera isn't digital you can capture smell on film.
Um, ew!
You know, if you wrap it in some deep fried bacon wrapped bacon, rotten meat can be a wonderful entree.
DId you get flies?
