Driving, Anniversaries, and other such Items

It’s been awhile since I’ve posted anything. There are several reasons for this: I haven’t had much time, and I’ve been at a loss as to what to post. So, I’m going to economize by copying a format that E uses occasionally – make a list.

1. Last week, my employers were moving to a house they purchased across town. So, it was my duty to occupy dear Eli elsewhere for the day. The first place we went was out to lunch with Josh. It was fun and cute to see Josh interact with Eli. As I was taking Josh back to work, I noted that Eli was about to fall asleep in his car seat. Since he had nowhere proper to take a nap (and it was nap time) I did the only reasonable thing – dropped Josh off at work and drove around for an hour. Not wanting to drive around in Charlottesville traffic, I headed out 250 and explored the area known as Ivy. I found some really great streets, with neighborhoods just rural enough to be comfortable, but not isolating. I was proud of myself for driving to new territories with a sleeping 1 year old in the backseat. It was an enjoyable jaunt. I remember it fondly as “Driving Mr. Eli.”

2. This past weekend, Joshua and I celebrated one year of marriage! It was a really great weekend. We had dinner out at a nice restaurant here called Oxo. The food was delish and the atmosphere was a nice blend of upscale/comfortable. Probably, however, better than the great dining out experience, was the time we spent on Sunday eating our one-year old cake (which was actually quite good) and looking through our wedding memorabilia – then we spent a long time just talking about the past year, what we had learned about ourselves and each other, how we stretched and compromised, how we were broken and rebuilt as better people, and what we think will be next for us. I have to admit that the prospect of someday celebrating a 50 year anniversary scares me to death. Not because of Joshua – but because the idea of getting older scares me…but that’s for another post. Mainly, I just wanted to say that Josh and I had a tremendous anniversary weekend and I’m happier everyday that I married the man I did.

3. Finally, this weekend, we are heading to Virginia Beach to meet up with some friends from college. It should be a great time, though rain is in the forecast for the whole weekend. After this weekend, I really need to buckle down and get ready for school to start. I’m sort of ready for the change, but not ready for the work.

4. It’s been crazy hot down here lately – as I’m sure it has been everywhere (from what the news tells me). I can’t understand how we survived the Ville last summer without air conditioning. Today, the high was around 95, but the heat index was closer to 105. Not nice weather. Especially when I have to drive by the pool four times a day and realize that I can’t stay home and swim in it because I have two jobs.

5. Well, that’s enough “listing” for me. Aren’t lists supposed to be concise??? Sorry.

Responding, in reverse order because I'm cruel like that:
5. Concision is overrated. I merely use lists so that I don't have to come up with transitions between topics thus making "coherent posting" of little concern. I'm such a rebel and now? SO ARE YOU!
4. Ah, the paradox of adult life: you can make the decision to live in a complex with a pool (or 2), but you have no time to swim in it. Adulthood, along with concision, is overrated.
3. Enjoy VA Beach! I hope you guys have an awesome time and that the weather doesn't spoil all the fun. *singing* Swimming in the rain, I'm swimming in the rain . . . "
2. Congratulations you crazy kids! You are a credit to marriage itself. Plus you're both hot. A-cha-lay!
1. "Driving Mr. Eli?" HILARIOUS! Josh playing with a baby? AWWWWWWW!

Much Love, M-Lo! Have a great vacation and say HOLA to the gang from K & E!
